October Post for 2019

To All Students
We will have a haunted house the week before Halloween, running through October 30. Our haunted house will be a series of refrigerator boxes (yes they will have to crawl through them). I need people to help spray paint the inside of each box black and help transform the fridge maze into something scary. We need help build, the monsters or scary bits, people to be in the haunted house, etc.

On Halloween, we will take the tram to Dragonstone. We'll sit on the beach with a bonfire. You get to grill your own hot dogs. (University students are encouraged to attend this team building exercise.) Thank you Queen Daenerys for allowing us to use your beach. I think some of our students would like to see your dragons.

For those of you who are taking English 101 here is your multi-media English assignment.

This assignment was designed to mix English, the Performing Arts (voice) and History.

October 30, 1938 Orsen Welles produced, directed and starred in the radio program War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. I have provided Back ground information. Wikipedia As usual your English teacher will have the rubric.

War of the Worlds It is the original broadcast. It takes 57 minutes. As you judge this radio show keep a 1938 view point.

Orson Welles is best known for his Academy award winning movie 'Rosebud,' is a must see by movie buffs. Saturday we will have a showing of 'Rosebud,' in the main campus that way both campus may watch it if they chose.

Extra credit: Watch the two movie versions and write a contrast/compare paper noting the differences and similarities.

There are two movie versions. The original 1953 version starring Gene Barry and Ann Robinson. While the second, 2005 starring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning.

This is a more traditional assignment. Read War of the Worlds or listen to the broadcast (See the link above.) in order to create a book report. As always your English teacher will have your Rubric

We have an unusual amount of students staying here instead of going home. So we are offering a few classes in case anyone wants to do some of the fun things during break like photography. All of them are surprisingly well behaved. Someone did put bubbles in the fountain.

Do either of you want to do something for July 4th? I'm game.
